AFIT MAINTAINS ITS HIGH STANDARD AS ANOTHER SET OF STUDENTS PREPARE TO GRADUATE FROM THE INSTITUTE’S SUNDRY MILITARY COURSES

41

In line with its  quest for excellence, the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) has continued to maintain its time-tested vigour in training and assessment. AFIT, which remains the only tripartite institution of higher learning in Nigeria that trains both civil and military personnel in aerospace related disciplines, remains committed to effective examination and assessment of students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of its training programmes.

The outgoing students who just finished their examination are now ready to proceed to the field to contribute to aviation safety. As the saying goes, “there is no parking space in the sky” so anyone who is going to work on an aircraft must be effectively and efficiently trained to ensure zero possibility for any failure when the aircraft is airborne. AFIT has continue to provide the needed technical skills that has sustained the Nigerian Air Force air operations as well as the aviation sector in Nigeria.

The incumbent Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Sani Labaran Rabe, upon assumption of office, raised the bar to include a stringent admission policy that would ensure that only knowledgeable candidates, both military and civil, could gain admission to study at the Institute. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut-off mark was raised to 200 as the minimum, thereby weeding off weak candidates. planning to gain admission into the Institute. The policy which came into effect since 2023 has indeed helped to keep applicants who are not serious away from the Institute. Students who were keen on gaining admission into the Institute but were too weak to attain the minimum score were given opportunity to proceed to the Institute’s School of Basic and Remedial Studies to rectify their deficiencies.

AFIT remains the most sought after Institute in the aviation field in Nigeria as its academic calendar is not disrupted by strikes and other irrelevancies that affect other institutions of higher learning.  The AFIT crest, wherever it is worn by those certified to use it, only radiates efficiency and excellence. As the new set of graduates from the sundry military courses prepare to exit the school on 10 September, 2025, it is believed that the rigour applied during their training would begin to manifest in their various places of work.
