The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has agreed to strengthen its partnership with Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). This was made known when AFIT Commandant, Air Vice Marshal CN Udeagulu paid a courtesy visit to the Director General NITDA, Dr Ali Pantami on 24 January 2019.

The visit to NITDA was a follow-up on an earlier visit to the Agency by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshall SB Abubakar in November 2018. At the Chief’s instance, a committee had been set up between the Nigerian Air Force and NITDA to draw up areas of mutual collaboration and possible assistance from the Agency to AFIT in particular and the NAF in general. The Commandant AVM Udeagulu restated the Chief’s desire to have NITDA support AFIT in infrastructural development. In buttressing the Commandant’s request, the Provost requested specifically for aid in acquiring access to Bloomberg analytics especially for Management Science students. This would help tremendously to bridge the technological gap in teaching the young crop of students at AFIT. In his response, the Director General Dr Ali Pantami acknowledged the existing relationship between the Nigerian Air Force and NITDA which had spanned some years. He expressed his delight to extend that same cordiality to AFIT as an integral part of the Air Force. He said that NITDA’s mandate of capacity building and job creation tied in very nicely with AFIT’s vision especially in terms of education. He disclosed to the team that NITDA grants postgraduate scholarships abroad to students in ICT but is willing to send the students instead to AFIT if the standards merited scholarships. He also promised some immediate interventions which NITDA is willing to grant to AFIT. These include E-Libraries and WLAN facilities which will bridge the work/ education divide for the children. They also promised the possibility of creating an innovation and entrepreneur hub for the students of AFIT. In conclusion, the DG NITDA tasked the Committee to submit its report within 48 hours to enable immediate commencement of the promise support to AFIT.
