AFIT COURTESY CALL ON GALAXY BACKBONE
The AFIT Commandant AVM CN Udeagulu led a team of his staff on a courtesy call to Galaxy Backbone the prime internet supplier and Data Centre for the Federal Government. In explaining the purpose for the visit, AVM Udeagulu commended Galaxy Backbone for the impressive and visible work they are doing in data management for the Government. He mentioned areas of assistance as well possible collaborations between the two organisations. These areas included provision of functional and robust ICT facilities and infrastructure which will support real time data, interactive learning and support international exchange between AFIT and other institutions. The Commandant also requested that Galaxy Backbone take up some AFIT students for their mandatory SIWES internship.Owing to the nature of Galaxy backbone, the Provost Prof. Mohammed Dauda briefed the MD on the challenges of modern teaching without adequate data. He reiterated that academic activities especially in the 21 st century has transmuted from analogue to digital and therefore AFIT must be adequately prepared to meet the technological challenges. While responding to the Commandant. Yusuf Kazaure the Managing Director/ Chief Executive welcomed the team to their organisation and expressed his pleasure to receive AFIT. He emphasised on mutual areas of interest between the two organisations. He was pleased at the timing of the visit which coincided with advanced stages of the laying of fibre optics through the North West region of Nigeria. He reassured AFIT that the optic fibre line slated to run through Kaduna will have its last mile at AFIT which will grant more than adequate internet coverage to the institution. He also reiterated Galaxy Backbones willingness to partner with AFIT in creating a training hub as part of their contribution to youth and national development. He assured that his organisation would immediately set up a team to work out areas of synergy and opportunities which will help drive AFIT’s vision. Chief of the team’s objective would be to fashion out modalities that will make AFIT a research hub for both public and private organisations. The visit was concluded with a facility tour of the Data Centre and other strategic areas of Galaxy Backbone with a promise from Galaxy Backbone to visit AFIT for a resource inspection for proper siting of infrastructure.
