As the saying goes, “there is no parking space in the sky” so anyone who is going to work on an aircraft must be effectively and efficiently trained to ensure zero possibility for any failure when the aircraft is airborne. AFIT has continue to provide the needed technical skills that has sustained the Nigerian Air Force air operations as well as the aviation sector in Nigeria.

The incumbent Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Sani Labaran Rabe, upon assumption of office, raised the bar to include a stringent admission policy that would ensure that only knowledgeable candidates, both military and civil, could gain admission to study at the Institute. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut-off mark was raised to 200 as the minimum, thereby weeding off weak candidates. planning to gain admission into the Institute. The policy which came into effect since 2023 has indeed helped to keep applicants who are not serious away from the Institute.
