The Commandant Launches Research Competition for Students and Staff of AFIT

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Comdt Air Force Institute of Technology, AVM PO Jemitola has launched various categories of research competitions as part of the ongoing AFIT Light Trainer Aircraft (ALTA) Project. The competitions include ALTA’s Naming Contest, Paper Plane Competition, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Competition, AFIT to the World Competition, AFIT Hackathon Competition and ALTA Patch Design Competition. The competitions come with different exciting prizes.

The Committee Chairperson of the ALTA project, Group Captain GE Abbe made a presentation on the ALTA project with detailed information on the different competitions and their prizes. The presentation took place at the Benjamin Mosugu Hall on 4th April 2023. According to Gp Capt Abbe, ALTA’s Naming Contest is open only to students and a star prize is attached. The deadline for the naming contest is 24 April 2023 and the winner of that category will be announced on 3rd May, 2023 at Ibrahim Alpha Auditorium.  He further stated that the ALTA Patch Design Competition is also open to only students who are expected to design an artistic patch for the ALTA.

According to the Chairman, the third competition titled “2023 Paper Plane Competition” was introduced to give students a chance to reinvent Da Vinci’s dream of flying and showcase their creative designs.  The paper plane competition is equally open to only students and the venue for the competition is the Air Craft Engineering Technology Department Hangar.

The flagship category of the competition is the Bi-Annual Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Competition which commences in 2023 with the theme “Innovative Solutions to Problems” with the grand prize. The Bi-Annual Competition is open to staff and students of the Institute where they will use Artificial Intelligence & Robotics to develop a mobile app that has security features, is user friendly and interactive.

The last category of the competition is tagged “AFIT to the World Competition” where participants are expected to make a 2 minute video projecting the uniqueness of the Institute to world.

According to the Chairman, to be part of the competitions, participants are to scan the QR Code on the attached flyers to register.
