DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Business Administration is one of the academic departments of the AFIT. Today, it is the most strategic department. It is one of the six departments that make up the Faculty of Social and Management sciences. The Department was established in order to train and develop adequate and skilled manpower in the area of professional management.
Vision of the Department
To be an internationally renowned department in the field of business, management, entrepreneurship, marketing, and finance research, innovation, publication and teaching.
Mission of the Department
To advance business and management knowledge and learning through quality research and education for the nation and humanity.
Objectives of the Department
The objectives of the department are;
- To provide the best possible and qualitative professionaleducation and training in the area of management that wouldenable promising and determined young men and women tobuild their careers as managers in both the public and privatesectors of the economy.
- To produce graduates who are socially responsible,knowledgeable and highly skilled in business management.
- To equip business executives with up-to-date knowledge in management as well as further develop their relevant professional skills and attitudes.
- To explore and expand the frontiers of knowledge through teaching, research and publication.
- To establish close relationship and co-operation with the private and public sectors, as well as with other institutions of higher learning, locally and internationally.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the general Institution entry requirements and requirements for University Matriculation Examination (UME), candidates seeking admission into Department of Business Administration, Air force Institute of Technology must possess the following requisite requirements:
- Five credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent in relevant subject areas, including English Language, Mathematics and Economics at not more than two sittings;
- Admission by Direct Entry, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
- GCE A’ Level/IJMB with passes in Accounting or Economics and at least one other subject In addition, candidates are expected to possess five credit passes at GCE/NECO/SSCE O’ Levels including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics at no more than two sittings.
- National Diploma from approved Polytechnics or Colleges of Technology with a grade not below Lower Credit. This is in addition to O’ Level requirements. Please note that the department does not accept Diploma Certificate obtained from Universities.
- Institution Diploma obtained from Air force Institution of Technology in related field may be acceptable.
- Final Certificate of relevant Professional Accounting bodies(Such as Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria).
- Any other relevant qualification as approved by the Senate of the University.
Course Requirements
Courses terminologies:
i) Core/Compulsory Course:
A course which every student must compulsorily take and pass in any particular programme at a particular level of study
ii) Elective Course:
A course that students take within or outside the faculty. Students may graduate without passing the course provided the minimum credit unit for the course had been attained.
iii) Optional Course
A course which students can take based on interest and may count towards the minimum credit unit required for graduation.
iv) Pre-requisite Course
A course which student must take and pass before taking a particular course at a higher level.
v) Required Course
A course that you take at a level of study and must be passed before graduation.
vi) For each course specified, the categories to which it belongs, the weights (units) attached to each course and the level/year they could be offered on the programme is indicated.
vii) A unit of course is defined as one contact hour of lecture/tutorial or seminar.
viii) A student must take and pass a minimum of 15 and maximum of 24 credit units of courses in any given semester. A student must accumulate at least 30 units per level to qualify for graduation.
ix) All students for the four-year programme are required to take and pass for General studies (GST) courses before graduation.
x) A student must obtain at least 75% attendance in each course registered for to be eligible to sit for the end of examinations in the course.
xi) To graduate, students must register for courses as specified in this handbook and accumulate a minimum of 120 credit units/hours in total. The minimum period allowed for candidates to complete the programme is 6 semester or 3 years for DE students and 8 semester or 4 years for UME students and the maximum period is 10 semesters or 5 years for DE and 12 semesters or 6 years for UME students.
