AFIT WINS NORTH-WEST ZONAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH COMPETITION
In an outright showcase of valour and excellence, the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna has emerged overall winner of the just concluded North-West Zonal Technology Research Competition held on 13 September 2022 at the Kano State Polytechnic. The competition which was keenly contested among 42 participating polytechnics and colleges of technology drawn from the northwest geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
While expressing his excitement on the Institution’s victory, the Commandant AFIT, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Mohammed Yakubu stated that by winning the zonal competition, AFIT has justified the huge investment made on the Institution by the Federal Government and Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (HQ NAF) under the current leadership of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao. “I am immensely delighted and encouraged by this laudable feat. It is indicative that the investments the NAF has made into upgrading facilities and staff welfare are already yielding results”, he stated. AVM Yakubu added that the victory would further strengthen his vision which is, ‘To make AFIT the best tertiary institution in Nigeria and among the best ranked universities in the world while meeting NAF manpower requirements for quality/skilled technical personnel.’ While describing the award as victory to the entire NAF, Yakubu appreciated the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal IO Amao for his unwavering support to the Institution, promising that AFIT will be spurred further towards realizing NAF objectives.
The AFIT research team for the competition was led by Dr Adebisi Adetayo Abdulmumin, who is the Director, Centre for Research and Innovation (CIR) AFIT. The zonal winners are expected to compete for the final phase of the competition where the national winner will emerge.
