AFIT COMMANDANT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO MINISTER OF DEFENCE, SEEKS SUPPORT FOR GREEN ENERGY INITIATIVES

The Commandant, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Kolade Ademuwagun recently paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Defence General Musa Gwabin Christopher(rtd) to congratulate him on his well-deserved appointment and assumption of office.

During the visit, the AFIT Commandant conveyed the warm felicitations of the Management, staff, and students of the Institute, describing the Minister’s appointment as timely and strategic in view of Nigeria’s evolving security and technological needs. He expressed confidence in the Minister’s leadership and commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence architecture.

AVM Ademuwagun highlighted AFIT’s mandate as Nigeria’s foremost military-owned tertiary institution for aerospace, engineering, and defence-related research. He noted that the Institute has continued to play a critical role in human capacity development, innovation, and research in support of the Nigerian Air Force and Armed Forces as a whole.

In line with global best practices and Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development, the AFIT Commandant sought the Honourable Minister’s support in advancing the Institute’s Green Energy initiatives. He explained that AFIT is intensifying efforts in renewable energy research, including solar power systems, energy-efficient technologies, and sustainable infrastructure, aimed at reducing operational costs, enhancing energy security, and promoting environmental responsibility.

According to the Commandant, increased investment and policy backing in green energy would not only improve AFIT’s academic and research capacity but also position the Nigerian Armed Forces as a leader in sustainable military operations across Africa.

In his response, the Honourable Minister of Defence appreciated the visit and thanked the AFIT Commandant for the heartfelt congratulations. He commended the Institute for its contributions to technological advancement and manpower development within the Armed Forces. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance innovation, sustainability, and operational efficiency, noting that green energy remains a critical area for future defence planning.

Highlights of the visit were exchange of souvenirs and photographs with a renewed commitment to collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and AFIT.
