WE WILL UPGRADE SPORTING FACILITIES IN AFIT, AVM ADEMUWAGUN AFFIRMS

The Commandant Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, Air Vice Marshal AK Ademuwagun has promised to upgrade sporting facilities within the Institute to provide better opportunities for talent development. He stated that sports and recreation were essential components of any modern university system as there must be opportunities for staff and students to engage in sporting and recreational activities after the rigours of academic work.

The Commandant, who was represented by the Institute’s Director of Logistics, Air Commodore GO Okoh, made this known during the closing ceremony of the just concluded AFIT Fourth Inter-Faculty Sports Competition 2025. While expressing his satisfaction and appreciation for the success of this year’s sports competition, the Commandant stated that as a dedicated lover of sports, he has consistently championed sporting initiatives to nurture not only physical prowess, but also the values of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership values that define the Nigerian Air Force and the AFIT spirit. He further noted that the competition aligns with one of the key strategic pillars of his vision which is to “Champion the holistic health and well-being of our entire AFIT community”.

A total of seven faculties participated in the 3-day competition which cut across nine sporting activities namely football, volleyball, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, scrabble, swimming and table tennis. The Faculty of Ground and Communication Engineering (NUC) came first with a total of 32 medals followed by the Faculty of Engineering (NBTE) with 25 medals and Faculty of Social and Management Science (NUC) with 15 medals. The Faculty of Air Engineering (NUC) came fourth with 22 medals. The fifth, sixth and seventh positions went to Faculty of Computing (NUC) with 10 medals, Faculty of Science (NUC) with 15 medals and Faculty of Social and Management Science (NBTE) with only one medal.
