The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Defence Health Maintenance Limited (DHML), Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (rtd) has assured the Commandant, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), AVM SL Rabe, that students of AFIT will benefit from the insurance cover of DHML. R/Adm Afolayan who noted that the number of military students within AFIT was very significant, agreed that there was the need for capitation to be extended to AFIT Medical Centre. He expressed delight at the rapid growth of the Institute and added that his management team will do all within its limit to address the issues raised.
It would be recalled that in his determination to bring health care to AFIT students, staff and the neighbouring communities, the incumbent Commandant, AVM SL Rabe, liaised with different medical agencies leading to increased support for AFIT in the discharge of medical care to students and staff of AFIT. As part of his efforts to ensure that AFIT community was not left out of the National Insurance Policy, AVM Rabe went on a collaborative visit to DHML where issues of medical cover were discussed and critical decisions taken to enhance the well being of AFIT students.
AVM Rabe remarked that the “AFIT Medical Centre provides medical assistance to staff and students as well as indigenous inhabitants of neighbouring communities.” He disclosed that AFIT has conducted medical outreach programmes to these communities as part of its corporate social responsibility and will continue to do so within available resources.
