The Federal Ministry of Power and Energy through its Renewable Energy Agency (REA) has promised the generation of 2megawatts to the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna. The pledged power which will be generated through renewable energy means is to increase power supply to the institution. Officials of the Ministry while on a visit to the Institute said the school was selected as one of the five beneficiaries for the execution of her solar PVC system. With the implementation of this project, the AFIT community which has been experiencing low power supply from the Power Generation Company will be better served.
The team leader Engr. Temitope Dina on behalf of the Minister made a promise to strengthen the relationship between the Ministry and AFIT. While speaking, he added that the purpose of the visit was to inform AFIT of the Ministry’s readiness to deploy a solar PVC system with batteries to power the institution. According to him, the Ministry from its findings realized that the general public is always underserved in terms of power supply due to poor distribution from the distribution companies. “The Ministry is exploring other sources of energy especially renewable energy to meet the Federal Government’s 2030 vision of 13gigawatts for the country. Extending the grid for about 40kilometers with a cost of 400milion naira will not solve the problem of power supply as the people will still be underserved because availability of power is when you have a minimum of 16hours supply of electricity per day. Hence the Ministry resolved to try other sources of energy”.

While receiving the team, the Deputy Commandant of the Institute, Air Vice Marshal Cosmas Chiebonam Ozougwu expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Minister for selecting AFIT as one of the beneficiaries of the renewable energy project. He stated that the institution has been expecting such opportunities and is very prepared to give all necessary support the Ministry may need to ensure that it is a success. He also acquainted the delegates of the programmes run by the institution which includes Military, NBTE and NUC programmes. The highlight of the visit included a facility tour and site allocation for the establishment of the solar farm.
