AFIT TO PARTNER WITH ISPON IN SAFETY RELATED ACTIVITIES
As part of activities to promote effectively on health and safety issues to a high professional standard in various organizations, the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has agitated for partnership with the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in the areas of safety propagation, research and development, training and knowledge sharing, when they recently paid a visit to the Commandant of the Institute.
The Chairman of ISPON Kaduna chapter, Mr. Oyibo Felix in his speech said as a safety professional umbrella of the nation, and AFIT being a giant in aviation safety training in Nigeria, it is a fact of profound significance that the roles both institutes play in the national development and the protection of human lives cannot be over emphasize, hence the need for synergy between AFIT and ISPON.
Mr. Oyibo Felix also said that Air Force Institute of Technology is a force to be reckoned with considering their expertise in aviation safety, which is a very crucial aspect of safety. Stressing that with the complexity of the industry and high technological skills needed, the area of aviation safety is not an area to dare without sound technological “know – how” and competence. The ISPON chairman however commended AFIT for their roles in aviation safety in Nigeria, urging AFIT to register with ISPON as a corporate member, participate or sponsor yearly professional development conferences and break more grounds through training.
Responding, the Commandant of AFIT, Air Vice Marshal Isyaka Bukar welcomed the initiative, saying that there is no course offered in AFIT that safety measures are not always put in to consideration. He however assured the members that AFIT is ready to collaborate with ISPON in promoting health and safety in the country and other areas as deemed important in due course.
The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria was founded in 1980 as a membership, non – Profit organization for all individuals involved in occupational health and safety practices, to maintain standards, providing impartial authoritative guidance on safety practice, and organizing training. The Institute was formerly known and addressed as Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NIPS), but changed name and status in 2014. The Institute has affiliation with world class safety professional bodies like Institute of Occupational safety (IOSH) in the UK, ASSE of USA, NASP of USA, LASETHAS of VENEZUELA and NEBOSH worldwide.
